About the Design

In 1901, the team purchased used, faded maroon jerseys from a nearby college, which the owner described as "Cardinal red." Thus the team became the Cardinals. The team would become the Chicago Cardinals (1922), the St Louis Cardinals (1960), and eventually the Arizona Cardinals in 1988. Founded as the Morgan Athletic Club (Chicago) in 1898, it is the oldest continuously run professional football team in the United States.
